Background

The European IT Service Center Foundation, Inc. (EITSC) and Hanns Seidel Foundation with co-funding from the European Union are implementing a human capability building initiative that takes a progressive approach to answering the call for more qualified workers in the Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing Sector.

EITSC contracted IT Konsult, Inc. (ITK) to conduct a survey of existing IT certifications via a certification mapping project in October 2007.

Certification Mapping is a process to define the existing IT assessments and certifications that individuals could take in order to affirm their skills and competencies in IT. Through Certification Mapping, IT career paths can be defined.

The result of the certification mapping project is an IT Certification Field Guide with the following objectives:

  1. Assist individuals in defining their IT skills set and competencies

  2. Identify organizations that offer these certifications

  3. Identify the relevance and acceptance of these certifications to companies/employers

  4. Use the Certification Field Guide to promote and create awareness on the importance of certifications to career and personal advancement

Disclaimer

The research is an attempt to put together in one document the various IT certifications that are currently offered to IT practitioners in the Philippine market. The research has some limitations, as follows:

  • The research does not encompass all the possible IT industry certifications in the market. The scope of the research has been limited to leading certifying organizations used by Philippines IT industry practitioners. Most of these certifying organizations are based in the country, either through partners or subsidiaries. Some are not locally present and are accessed only by web.

  • The research does not prescribe the skills and competencies that an IT professional should attain to qualify for certain job levels.

  • The research does not assess the equivalence of skills or competencies defined by each of the certifying organizations.

  • The research does not modify any definition, description, or provisions of any certification offered by the certifying organization.

  • No detailed survey or analysis of the existing certifications has been conducted in the course of this project. The results of this project are based on the interviews with executives, instructors, IT professionals of the various organizations involved and the information obtained from their websites.

  • Indicative fees and schedules are applicable at the time of survey (October-November 2007). These are subject to change without prior notice, please get in contact with the indicated Authorized Testing Centers.
