To stay in stride with the digital future, CeBIT is the place to be.

Munich/Hannover. The countdown for CeBIT 2012 has begun. "This year's CeBIT is about to add to its global renown as the foremost event for digital technologies," remarked CeBIT Senior Vice President Frank Poerschmann at the launch of the CeBIT Previews in Munich on Tuesday. "For everyone who aims to stay in stride with the digital future - be it for entrepreneurial, work-related or personal reasons - CeBIT is the place to be."

From 6 to 10 March, CeBIT visitors will be treated to very latest digital trends, industry news and inspired innovations at the tradeshow's home base in Hannover, Germany. Trending topics identified by leading think tanks - Big Data, Cloud Computing, Mobility and Social Media - are the focus of the upcoming event, under the overarching theme of "Managing Trust - Trust and security in the digital world." Solutions and concepts dedicated to these topics will be featured in particular at the CeBIT Security World and the Professional Data Center, with thematic tie-ins enjoying high visibility throughout all of CeBIT.

Safety and security concepts for urban centers and the secure transfer and storage of medical information are just a few examples of what's hot this year in the "CeBIT gov" showcase. "CeBIT lab" will spotlight 3D technologies, the Internet of things, the semantic web and the open cloud.

"The R&D hot spot at CeBIT is making a stronger showing than ever this year. For the first time ever, `CeBIT lab' fills an entire hall, also featuring the Resources & Career initiative with a host of activities and services for job-seekers and recruiters," explained Poerschmann. CeBIT is thus set to underscore its well-earned reputation as the largest job and career market in the digital world.

CeBIT is the only place in the world where the IT, telecommunications, electronics and content industries get together to explore common ground, and the only event capable of revealing synergetic opportunities as they arise from on-going market convergence. Visitors can quickly and efficiently get a grasp of the entire ICT landscape, experience the latest solutions first hand, share visions and make important business contacts. "CeBIT is about doing business. And we'll be introducing new services to enhance our standing as the most efficient platform for lead generation. In the Information Center at the very heart of the CeBIT showground, over 3,000 square meters (approx. 32,300 sq. feet) are exclusively reserved for the Match & Meet service - an added-value offering like no other in the world," remarked Poerschmann.

Many special displays such as the CeBIT i-land with its smartphone accessories, the automotive platform Destination ITS and the innovation-rich Code_n 12 showcase give visitors a chance to invite visitors to experience new technology up close and hands on.

The CeBIT Global Conferences are another visionary offering, giving CeBIT attendees the chance to connect with prestigious speakers from around the world. More than 60 shakers and movers of the international ICT scene are on hand to deliver keynote speeches, give targeted presentations and participate in panel talks. The line-up of high-caliber speakers includes the likes of Dr. Werner Vogels (CTO, Amazon), Dr. Michael Gorriz, (CIO, Daimler), Jeremy Doig (Engineering Director, Google), Jacob Aqraou (Senior Vice President, eBay) and Dr. Steve Garnett (Chairman and President, Salesforce Europe). For the first time, the world's largest social network Facebook is also represented at the leading global ICT conference, in the person of its Director of Policy in Europe, Richard Allan.

Visitors have the opportunity to explore certain themes more extensively in guided tours and workshops, and answers to specific questions are also available at some 30 different forums.

The cross-industry C3 Conference is being held for the first time at CeBIT 2012. Under the topic triad of "Content - Creativity - Convergence", publishers, game developers, music and film producers will be exploring synergies with the ICT industry and future business models.

Everything positioned at the the interface of digital technologies and the automotive industry is now bundled at CeBIT under the title "Digital Drive". "CeBIT is the platform not just for digital lifestyles, but also for digital drivestyles. They're an integral aspect at CeBIT," said Poerschmann. A conference is also dedicated to the topic: automotiveDAY on Thursday, 8 March. Speakers include top experts from Audi, BMW, Daimler, Lamborghini and Volkswagen, who will be addressing challenges being faced by the automotive industry together with fellow experts from the digital realm.

CeBIT is also a regular meeting place for IT managers who use the event to cultivate key contacts, gather new expertise in workshops and expand their networks. "In our House of CIOs in Hall 4, we expect to host more than 700 IT executives from the largest companies around the world. CeBIT is the only event that can boast such a high concentration of C-level executives," stressed Poerschmann.

As always, entertainment is also on the CeBIT 2012 agenda. Daily concerts are being offered on the Sounds stage as part of the "CeBIT life" showcase. Barmer GEK is contributing an athletic activity program, and the international gaming community will be gathering at the Intel Extreme Masters.

CeBIT 2012 opens on 6 March. German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel will preside over the Opening Ceremony in the Hannover Congress Centrum on the eve of CeBIT. Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff is also expected to participate, on behalf of the official Partner Country of CeBIT 2012. On behalf of the digital industry, a keynote will be given by Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google. The audience of over 2,000 VIPs will also be treated to insight by Dr. Dieter Kempf, President of the German Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM), and David McAllister, Premier of the State of Lower Saxony.


Smart Efficiency and Metropolitan Solutions at Hannover Messe 2011

When the next HANNOVER MESSE opens in early April the focus will be on "smart efficiency" - a theme underlined by exhibitors from 65 countries showcasing more than 5,000 innovations from the entire industrial spectrum. Speaking in Hannover on Tuesday, Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch, Chairman of the Board at Deutsche Messe AG, reported: "The mood among the exhibiting companies is good; they are encouraged by the positive growth indicators. Everyone involved thinks that this year's HANNOVER MESSE will be an exceptional event." He added that HANNOVER MESSE 2011 "would not only reflect industry's continued innovative capabilities, but also show that industry is already able to deliver workable solutions to global challenges such as mobility, climate protection and the efficient management of resources. It is really just a question of implementing these solutions."

The organizers have stated that the event has attracted over 6,500 companies from 65 countries. Approx. half of the exhibitors expected at HANNOVER MESSE come from outside Germany. "With its line-up of 13 leading trade shows HANNOVER MESSE 2011 will be a tour de force. We have targeted the right themes and areas. The event boasts an extremely international profile and market conditions are encouraging. We expect this year's HANNOVER MESSE to be the best since ten years," said von Fritsch. Excluding the host nation, the top five countries in terms of exhibitors will be China, Italy, France, Turkey and Switzerland. Exhibitors have booked a total display area of over 220,000 square metres at HANNOVER MESSE 2011.

According to von Fritsch, the economic indicators and market trends are very positive for this year's HANNOVER MESSE. The German Engineering Federation (VDMA) expects production to grow by ten percent in the current year, while the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI) has forecast growth of approx. six percent in 2011.

"Smart Efficiency" is a keynote theme

Despite stable growth rates in Germany, industry remains vigilant in its efforts to reduce costs as well as develop new processes and innovations and quickly bring them to the marketplace. Increasing energy costs make the conservation and efficient use of resources a priority. In this context, the motto of HANNOVER MESSE 2011 - Smart Efficiency - is a constant theme of all the leading trade fairs at Hannover. All the display categories - whether Automation, Energy, Power Transmission & Control Technology, Industrial Supply, Production Technology or Research & Technology - focus on the keynote theme of Smart Efficiency with special dedicated presentations, panel discussions and workshops. One example of "smart efficiency" is the use of modern lightweight engineering materials geared to reducing the amount of energy and material resources used in manufacturing processes, thus making products more cost-efficient. Companies that develop and supply lightweight materials and engineering solutions will use HANNOVER MESSE to showcase their new products, processes and services and highlight applications for diverse sectors.

Smart Efficiency is also a core theme of the "Mobility" display. Over the next ten years Germany is set to become a leading international market for electric mobility. In this connection, approx. 300 companies will be exhibiting the relevant technology and solutions at HANNOVER MESSE 2011.

"Metropolitan Solutions" will highlight solutions for urban infrastructures

The display category "Metropolitan Solutions" makes its debut this year. The event, which takes place in Hall 8, will focus on technologies and solutions for urban infrastructures. Major cities and metropolitan areas with populations of ten million plus are facing new and increasing challenges - for example, meeting the rising demand for electricity and water supplies, transport and mobility problems, as well as building infrastructures. More than 20 exhibitors, including companies such as Siemens, Imtech and Deutsche Bahn (German Railways), will be showcasing metropolitan solutions, model projections and reference projects. Institutions and organizations such as the International Society of City and Regional Planning (Isocarp) and the World Bank will also be represented. Furthermore, there will be a high-calibre forum at which internationally acclaimed speakers will present exemplary projects, offer insights into the role of different technologies and elucidate on the solutions shown at "Metropolitan Solutions".

Over 230 exhibitors at Partner Country France

More than 230 exhibitors will be representing France with diverse displays dedicated to "Innovation for sustainable growth". The main emphasis of the French presentation will be on energy, mobility, energy efficiency, industrial supply and R&D. Exhibitor participation at Partner Country France has been organized by UBIFRANCE, the French Trade Office.

The central French stand is situated in the trade show "Energy" in Hall 13 (Stand D 10). A total of nine UBIFRANCE stands boasting joint displays will be located across the Exhibition Grounds. Numerous delegations from France have registered for HANNOVER MESSE 2011.

German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and the French Prime Minister Francois Fillon will open HANNOVER MESSE 2011 at a ceremony on the evening of 3 April in the Hannover Congress Centrum. Other speakers include Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan, the German Minister for Education and Research, David McAllister, the Premier of Lower Saxony, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Peter Keitel, the President of the Federation of German Industry. The trade fair itself opens on the following morning, 4 April, at 9.00 a.m.

Keynote Trends at CeBIT 2011 for Business and Consumers

Hannover, Germany. CeBIT showcased the gamut of digital innovations this year.  Along with the keynote theme of "Work and Life with the Cloud," there was a clear focus on tablet PCs and smartphones, business solutions and applications for the new German identity card. Other top-draw topics included 3D (with and without glasses), IT security, cloud-based print technologies, intelligent networking for health and traffic applications and sustainable energy concepts for businesses and households.

Some 40 new tablet PC providers appear at show

Back in 1983, IBM presented its first personal computer at Hannover Messe, selling for roughly $3,000. More than a quarter of a century later, the exhibits at CeBIT 2011 featured tablet PCs and Webpads which visually consist of little more than a screen, running primarily on Google's Android operating system and Microsoft Windows 7. "Tablet PCs are establishing themselves as a separate computer category alongside desktop computers, notebooks and netbooks," said Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer, President of the German Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and the New Media (BITKOM), at CeBIT 2011. Well over 40 new models featuring finger-friendly gesture control were on display. Visitors were especially interested in models that ran on the new 3.0 version of Android ("Honeycomb"), featuring an interface with eye-catching 3D effects. This requires the use of the latest tablet hardware generation, and some of the devices presented at CeBIT already boasted dual core processors with a minimum clock frequency of 1 gigahertz.

Smartphones evolving into mini-PCs

Smartphones manufactured in 2011 have similar levels of power packed behind the screen. These new high-tech mobile phones can be more accurately described as mini computers capable of telephony. They can run a huge array of small applications ("apps") catering to every aspect of everyday life, making them increasingly essential for business and leisure use. While CeBIT 2011 was still in progress, BITKOM issued its forecast of a 36-percent jump in German sales of smartphones for the current year. A bright future in particular is predicted for products which feature docking stations, thus making mobile phones the link between a traditional keyboard and a large screen, while the software for these data-intensive applications is stored on the Web. CeBIT 2011 featured live displays of mobile connectivity in action, as well as of the first mobile phone which can record and display 3D photos and videos.

Mobile Web and TV represent challenge for data networks

There is no sign of any falloff in network hunger for bandwidth: Survey results indicate up to five-fold growth in fixed-line data traffic volumes through 2013, and an up to 60-fold increase for mobile networks. To meet this ever-increasing demand, Germany's two leading network operators confirmed at CeBIT 2011 that further expansion of the required high-capacity broadband networks would continue unabated. They plan to achieve this with a mix of leading-edge technologies, including fiberglass and copper connections and mobile broadband technologies such as HSPA+, LTE and WLAN. This flexibility will provide the basis for a multi-gigabit broadband network with comprehensive territorial coverage. Internet-capable TV sets are also expected to become more popular in 2011. The new open standard HbbTV is based on existing technologies, and is supported by many suppliers in the consumer electronics sector.

The Web as a huge data cloud

According to the analysts at IDC, cloud computing will account for 10 percent of all global IT expenditure by 2013. Rather than investing in their own technical infrastructure, companies are increasingly renting the resources they need over the Internet. This means that a real server can be used jointly by multiple virtual servers, boosting capacity utilization and allowing savings in energy consumption of over 50 percent. Cloud sales revenues with business and private customers are expected to soar by around 55 percent this year to reach a total of 3.5 billion euros. Experts are also predicting that around 10 percent of IT expenditure in Germany will be spent on cloud technology in 2015.

CeBIT 2011 held a mirror to this megatrend with its keynote theme of "Work and Life with the Cloud". Apart from offering even greater computing power and memory capacity, the cloud also provides applications and entire system landscapes for all kinds of terminal devices. Company employees with a smartphone, tablet PC or netbook can keep working on their office documents while traveling from place to place, virtually without interruption - because rather than being chained to local hardware, desktops are increasingly likely to be located in a protected data cloud. Government organizations can also benefit from this technology. CeBIT 2011 featured examples of the interoperable use of cloud technologies, with no media discontinuity problems. Private users are also increasingly storing their photos, videos and e-mails on the Web rather than on their own hard disk. Data can be accessed online from any device, then shared with others: Work and life in the cloud was clearly one of the standout themes at CeBIT 2011.

Industry focus on security solutions

The prospect of extending their IT infrastructure into the cloud is confronting many companies with new challenges in data and workflow protection. High-security key management systems, presented by leading security providers at CeBIT 2011, ensure that only authorized users can access data stored in the cloud. Private users are increasingly purchasing IT and Internet security services provided directly from the Internet. Security-as-a-service, for example, is often provided free of charge or for a small extra fee for new operating system licenses, in the form of anti-virus protection and firewalls. CeBIT 2011 also included displays of the latest protection software for today's smartphones, which are increasingly exposed to hacker attacks due to their rapid growth in use. National governments also face IT security challenges: BITKOM reported that 78 percent of all German Internet users would like to see more government protection on the Web, particularly against terrorism and crime.

Premiere for new German ID card

In her keynote speech at the Opening Ceremony for CeBIT 2011, German Chancellor Angela Merkel appealed for greater legal security for Web users. A key role is to be played here by the new national ID card, for which a raft of applications was presented at the trade show. This new card-sized ID will soon function as an identification tool for online shopping, registration and citizen-government transactions. Instead of having to wait in line at the reception desk of a government office, citizens with an ID card will be able to submit their pension application or vehicle registration directly via the Internet. Deutsche Messe became the first company to make practical use of the new ID card by giving its holders free admission to CeBIT 2011, subject to prior activation of their ID cards' online functionality.

3D without special glasses

This has been the year of three-dimensional images on PC displays and gaming consoles, and several manufacturers presented devices for this purpose in Hannover. Deutsche Messe staged a display dedicated entirely to 3D: "Next Level 3D". This special showcase featured systems for which viewers no longer even to wear special glasses. Autostereoscopic displays use two cameras to track the viewer's eye movements, on the basis of which the system computes how the image elements required for 3D need to be arranged. The presentation also included a single-user, touch-free, gesture-controlled display.

Business software with networking potential

The many exhibitors who returned for this year's CeBIT included leading printing specialists like Canon and Xerox. CeBIT 2011 revealed a trend towards intelligent managed print services (MPS) which can save costs and enhance productivity. Mobile and cloud-based print solutions for printing documents stored on a mobile phone or tablet PC, for example, are also establishing a strong market presence. The IT tradeshow also unveiled some new trends in enterprise resource planning (ERP). Successful companies have long seen ERP as more than just a system for financial accounting and effective management of their machinery. The flexible solutions highlighted in Hannover can easily be extended to include cloud services and apps. Another major growth market involves the networking of machines, i.e. "machine-to machine communication" (M2M). The future will see literally billions of such mobile data transfer communications - for example networked taxis to minimize waiting times for passengers and downtimes between fares for drivers. Elevators will report faults to the maintenance operator in a matter of seconds, and power meters will forward consumption data via mobile networks.

Firms discover potential of social media

Social networks also featured strongly at CeBIT 2011, particularly in terms of their use for corporate internal communications. Many firms are looking for ways to interact directly with customers, potential employees or other stakeholders. Twitter also provides a news medium that allows for fast and direct exchanges with specific target groups. Social media are also increasingly being used within companies on the basis of Enterprise 2.0 technologies. Internal blogs, wikis and forums are all effective channels for exchanging experience, opinions and knowledge among employees.

Intelligent network in health and transport sectors

Over the last ten years, expenditure on the German health system has risen by about one-third to over 260 billion euros per annum. The ongoing demographic shift will result in increasing numbers of healthcare consumers, yet declining numbers of people paying in. To cut down on costs, it will be necessary to create more effective networking between hospitals, physicians and patients with state-of-the-art ICT systems - for example through online monitoring. Smartphones have started to play a key role in this area, thanks to their outstanding connectivity and innovative mobile health applications. This was showcased in several displays at CeBIT 2011.

Apps conquer automotive industry

CeBIT featured several manufacturer presentations of connectivity solutions for automobile cockpits, combined with Internet access, user-friendly voice control and a touch screen. Today's drivers can have their e-mails read aloud, dictate a reply or use infotainment services, and the equipment options available in today's cars also include intelligent navigation services for fleet operators and logistics service providers. These systems interact with virtually any kind of communication device, from joysticks to smartphones. The motor vehicle literally becomes a wireless LAN hotspot on wheels. And far from being limited to luxury models, these technologies are also provided for compact automobiles, as could be seen at CeBIT 2011. This year's show also focused on intelligent traffic management systems, because as well as creating needless CO2 emissions, constant traffic jams cost the economy billions of euros.

Research institutions and telematics companies used CeBIT 2011 to present technologies that will soon allow the improved management of traffic flows - rom intelligent traffic lights signaling the optimum driving speeds to keep traffic moving in regular "green waves" through our city streets, to the TMC successor TPEG (transport protocol expert group), which combines traffic data from a range of sources to provide almost real-time navigation. Advanced IT solutions are also bringing genuine benefits for the electromobility sector, as an important step on the path to a low-emission automotive future. This was impressively illustrated by a number of application scenarios displayed at CeBIT 2011.

Sustainable energy concepts for businesses and households

The EU Renewable Energy Directive requires that 20 percent of energy be generated from renewable sources by 2020. That target can be only be met if energy utilities, the IT industry and the public sector work hand in hand to develop an infrastructure that provides for the required data reading services (smart meter), load management capability (smart grid) and household appliance management functions (smart home). At CeBIT 2011 key decision-makers discussed this important new challenge at the "IT Meets Energy" Smart Grid summit at the CeBIT Global Conferences program, accompanied by displays of the first market-ready products in the "CeBIT life" exhibition sector. This speaks for a new, billion-euro growth market for the IT industry, which CeBIT - as the world's biggest innovation showcase for the digital industry - is eager to promote.


The next CeBIT will be staged from 6 to 10 March 2012 in Hannover, Germany.

CeBIT Australia 2010 - An Opportune Platform for Philippine IT/ BPO Companies


After gaining the highest turn-out in terms of won contracts/ partnerships last year, the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) in cooperation with the Commission on Information and Communications Technology will be coming back to Australia this coming May to attend and participate at the "CeBIT Australia 2010" in Sydney.

Philippines @ the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai

The Philippines will make an all-out effort for a fabulous display at the 2010 World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.  From 01 May to 31 October 2010, about 70 million potential tourists and investors from 200 nations are expected to take part in this grand international gathering.

Showcasing the country's history and cultural essence to the world, the Philippine Pavilion will be approximately 2,000 square meters.  According to the Department of Tourism, the Philippine presentation will have the theme "displaying cities," highlighting the interaction between humanistic urban development and mankind as well as cities and environment through animation technology. With the concept or arts and achievement/ responsibility, it will show how the Filipinos incorporate urban construction with design, planning, management and sustainability and blend music and performance into the design and planning of specific cities.

Top 10 Outsourcing Trends in 2010

According to the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals, companies will return to using outsourcing to recapture innovation and provide flexibility in 2010 versus simply saving money, but global economic uncertainty will continue to impact the industry.

The key objective of the Forum -- to forge Dual Training partnerships between educational institutions and industry and further enhance Dual Training System (DTS) advocacy -- will be tackled during the first part of the activity, which will feature prominent speakers from the IT/BPO industry, the academe and key authorities on DTS.  The emphasis of this activity is the formalization and signing of collaboration agreements between educational institutions and industry partners.

The Launching of Training Resources developed by the Project for the IT/ BPO Industry will be the highlight of the second part of the activity.  These include competency standards, a competency-based curriculum and 53 self- contained modules on Contact Center Servicing. These training resources were borne out of the dynamic working partnership among the Project partners, the University of Makati and Rainmaker Asia, Inc.

The third part of the event is the Inauguration of the EITSC Computer Laboratory at UP-ITTC. The third offsite computer laboratory of the EITSC has been set up in cooperation with the UP System Information Technology Foundation, Inc. (UPSITF), one of the partners of the Project in the implementation of the DTS course on Contact Center Servicing.  The laboratory is located at the UP IT Training Center (UP-ITTC) at the Vidal A. Tan Hall of the University of the Philippines.

Philippines Wins Offshoring Destination Award 2007

The results of the 4th annual National Outsourcing Association Awards (NOAA) were announced on 18 October 2007 at a glittering ceremony in central London. Over the last four years, the NOAA has become a landmark in the acceptance of outsourcing as a legitimate business practice and recognizes the efforts of companies or people who have shown excellence in the field of outsourcing.

The awards ceremony, which took place at The Brewery, in the City of London, was attended by almost 500 of the most influential people in the outsourcing world. The awards, which were hosted by stand up comedian, Fred MacAuley comprised an evening of dinner and entertainment.

The Philippines Awarded Best Offshoring Destination of the Year

The Philippines was awarded "Best Offshoring Destination of the Year" by the National Outsourcing Association (NOA) of the United Kingdom during its fourth annual award ceremony in London.

According to the NOA "the Philippines is truly developing as a global player in the offshoring marketplace. Its attractiveness as a destination of stems from a combination of important offshoring fundamentals alongside some highly valuable offshoring extras."

The Philippines' ITO/BPO industry has grown from EUR 1.1 to EUR 2.6 million over the past three years. Recent studies of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P) expect further increase up to EUR 9 million by 2010. Key sectors are contact centers, back office operations, animation, engineering design and software development.

Already housing global players such as LogicaCMG, Maersk and SGS the Philippines has become increasingly attractive for smaller and medium sized companies. For the NOA judges "the significant improvements in the infrastructure and attractive trade incentives made it a clear winner."

Philippine Trade Office in London Honorary Investment & Trade Representative Vicente Casim received the award for the Philippines. Next to the representatives of the Philippine government, the Philippine IT/BPO industry and Team Europe, UK companies, which already outsource successfully to the Philippines, such as LogicaCMG, Rivereo and Merlin joined the Philippine table and made it to a memorable event.

The application was submitted by Team Europe - Promoting the Philippines as the Offshoring and Outsourcing Destination of Choice. Team Europe is an initiative of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, the British Chamber of Commerce, Board of Investments, Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, and the European IT-Service Center Foundation.

The NOA is the UK's only outsourcing trade association.
